LINDBERGH AT WORK AND AT PLAY

A FAREWELL TRIP TO HEINSBURG in honour of Hammy Oliver ( retiring Chief Engineer) and Cliff Porter, who has moved to Head Office, was made one evening by a few of their many friends. They all happened to be old "Salts": Ken Scharf, Don Lumby, Arnold Nett, Reg Hooper, and Bert Ayres. From the plant, Jack Williams, Tom McLennan and Frank Rientjes joined them. Early the next morning, Henry Lorenson had open house and served Deer Steak. Out of the long list of names above, only Hammy, John Nimmo, Tom McLennan, and Frank Rientjes made it for the steaks. Everyone but the fellows who ate steaks seemed to be in a bad shape-"Stomach Flue". You see, when the river freezes its water becomes undrinkable — they drank it.

The following Saturday a farewell party was held for the Olivers at the curling rink. Many friends from the townsite and surrounding district attended. The ladies served one of their most delicious lunches. Herb and Florence Sutton and Bill and Irene Anderson played anything you could wish for dancing. Mr. and Mrs. Oliver were presented with a ,able lamp, trilight, and smoker's stand. They have been gone for over a month now, and are much missed by all.

WE EXTEND A WARM WELCOME to Mrs. Ed Gagnon who has recently returned from Edmonton after undergoing a heart operation. We wish her a very speedy recovery.

CONGRATULATIONS:

To Herb Sutton and Ron Seal on receiving their 5-year pins recently.

Also to Allen and Bertha Fakeley on the birth of their little bundle of joy, Darlene Gaye, who was born November 2/56.

THE KEN WATSON KORNER:

On the very first morning it was really cold, two young fellows became extra-anxious to make ice at 6:30 A.M.! Yes, it - was Alex Wyness and Geo. Krissa. The warm weather we had for a while put a crimp in our ice making and curling, but on December 20th, curling finally commenced. It's quite unbelievable, but we then had another warm spell, and Alex put a big "no curling til it gets colder" sign on the rink door. However, we are now well into our Round Robin. It was predicted by a few that there wouldn't be the same enthusiasm this year at last. However, its greater than ever. We now have nineteen rinks entered. The waiting room is full of spectators every night, even on the coldest nights. As a result of all the activity, the ladies certainly are turning out a lot of hamburgers and coffee.

Just before Christmas it was as if someone had discovered a diamond mine. All those rocks! The gals sporting them are Henrietta Anderson (Dairy Mill) to Doug Heck, and Pearl Stewart, to Allan Ingersoll.

A little tip for next leap year girls:—One morning Ken McGinnis had much difficulty making bags, George Krissa, his foreman, told him to see a doctor. You see the poor fellow's wrist was nearly broken, and after nearly a month, it's still quite sore — You're right, the lady didn't mean to break his arm, but he did mean business — Another four years is a long time. And that's how Susan Peters got her diamond too!

When the editor neglects to print the Christmas greeting a correspondent sends, should one let him know about it, or thank him very kindly for the lovely Christmas gift? Thanks a lot, sure was good.

EVEN THO' ITS LATE, HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL READERS.

( Editor repents: here's wishing everyone a merry Xmas in 1957 from our Lindbergh correspondent).

WE DID IT AGAIN:

Before midnight on November 24th all were anxious for the clock to strike twelve, which marked the end of another accident-free year. The last few days were like walking on thin ice with everyone fearing to break the record. Now we're all happy and proud, and on our way towards the next safety objective, The "President's Prize".

This year there was a choice of prizes. Following is the list of items to choose from:-4 pc. kitchen-knife set, watch- style compass, wallet ( leather ), hunting knife, nut bowl, potato chipper, Webster dictionary, cribbage board, and cresent wrench.

A Jug of WOrms and Foot Stool were raffled, in aid of the Christmas Party. The picture shows Howard Austin making the draw on the foot stool. Jack Williams is smiling because he was so certain he'd get it. He didn't!

HALLOWE'EN

These pictures returned too late for last issue, but we can't disappoint the little tots so we hereby remind you of last October 31st.

And last of all are the two Big Ones — Nobody else loved us
but the kids did. The witch is Irene Anderson, the clown —
Susan Peters.

LINDBERGH'S KIDDIES CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS

The children of our Salt Family had a wonderful time at their annual Christmas Party. The staff went to work to make it the biggest and best so far. Irene Anderson, Vera Fakeley, and Alice Young directed plays, recitations etc. They did a wonderful job of organizing a Christmas party that was as good to watch as to take part in. All the school age children from the townsite sang Christmas Carols, with Fay Anderson and Jannette Wyness singing duets and solos under the direction of Susan Peters.

Mrs. Williams brought in her troupe from Elk Point, Gail and Keith Williams, the Merrick and Lungul children, who sang carols. Keith soloed the new and popular "77 Santas". Last but surely not least — "SANTA" (Irene Anderson) gave the little ones a real thrill on entering the hall with a huge bag over the shoulder. After the Kiddies' party, the big kiddies cleared away the stage benches, and after taking children loaded with candy bags and toys home, returned to the hall for the annual Christmas party for the grown ups. Music for this party was again supplied by the Suttons and the Andersons, who really do a tremendous job of music-making for dancing.
